Phoenix ComiCon 2010 – It’s over! I made it! I survived! I’m going to fall over! *thud*

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Thank you to all who came out and visited with me! It was lovely to meet you all and see some familiar faces :D

For those who have asked, sales were better than I expected for my first convention (read: I wasn’t expecting any), and I think I’ve gotten a better feel for what people will and will not buy. My prints and posters already printed will go up on my Etsy in a few days, and I will probably not make many/any more. I think I’m going to stick with charms, stickers, and 4x6s from now on. I may even advertise that I do sketches, who knows?

If I do any more larger print work outside of commissions (yes I do commissions, no I don’t do my characters nude), I think I will focus more on getting a book together. I had a lot of people read through my portfolio of original comics, laugh, and enjoy it. It seems like this is more of what people want than one-shot prints or posters. In short, I’m not going to waste my time and energy on things everyone “likes” but isn’t willing to purchase (that defeats the purpose of spending money to have them made in the first place).

Thank you to Zach Reddy of Zach Reddy Art and PaleoComics for the opportunity to share a booth with you, and thank you to Randy Milholland of SomethingPositive.net for (coming to Arizona and) good advice.

My next convention will be Intervention Con in the DC area September 10 – 12. It’s a first year convention that honestly has a really good lineup and will probably be the best first-year convention I’ve ever heard of.

A quick note (only because it was brought to my attention):
For those of you who took/take pictures of my stuff without asking – please ensure that you do ask in the future so I can keep track of you, but know that I won’t be mad if you remember to credit me and link back to my site.

Just for perspective: I spent well over 3 weeks working my ass off on the Corset Gamer Girls poster that no one purchased. This particular piece doesn’t exist in my comic archive in that amount of detail (it is however available on MySoti). If I calculated my normal freelancing hours on that, I’d be in the red by about $1,200.00, or 240 chai lattes. That’s even cutting a deal with myself because I know me, and not including my professional printer’s cost. You can see why I might be a little annoyed, right?

That doesn’t mean I don’t want you guys to display photos of my art, ever take pictures, etc, etc. It just means that I would like you to consider the effects of not getting my (or any artist’s, really) permission and not giving credit. My stuff is all © me and it’s like keeping track of my babies. I want to make sure they don’t get in trouble or get others into trouble.

So, THANK YOU to the one person who asked and took my bookmark with my website. :)

Phoenix ComiCon 2011

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Hey, guys! It’s coming up on that time of year again. Thats right, Coooooooooooon!!! *obligatory fist shake*

Here’s the deal:

I’m sharing table #759 in Artist’s Alley with Zach Reddy of ZachReddy.com and PaleoComics. We’ll be right next to the Star Wars Neighborhood.

Hours for the Exhibitor Hall (located in North Building Lower Level Halls 4-5) are:
Thursday 4p – 9p
Friday & Saturday 10a – 7p
Sunday 10a – 5p

I’ll also be a panelist with Kevin Coulston, Daniel M Davis, and Madame M on the Webcomics Panel Saturday morning 10:30am – 11:30am in room 126B Comics.

Look! You can find maps on Phoenix ComiCon’s website here: http://phoenixcomicon.com/page/11

I’m bringing prints of Corset Gamer Girls, T-Rex Riding Pirate, and Mao, the T-Rex Riding Pirate postcards, bookmarks, Top 20 Fall 2009 – 2010 comic compilation minibooks, buttons, bottlecap necklaces, bottlecap and button magnets, and if we’re lucky, I’ll have a few shirts with me and 24 “Not all red shirts are disposable” shirts (I’m keeping one)! I’m also bringing my Candy Box Jewelry (as seen on my Etsy) for sale.

If there is anything not listed that you want me to bring for you, please let me know now! I will require a $5 down payment and provide you a reservation number. Unless I know you personally, I’ll expect ID with the reservation number. Pass me an if you’re interested.

I will also gladly do buttons and bottlecap magnets or necklaces by request if you don’t see the design you want. I will also make any of the chainmaille earrings by request (even let you pick your own colours). I’ll take orders on anything else, but I can’t guarantee I’ll have them done by end of PHXCC (like shirts – 2 week lead time). I’m leaving all my supplies at home this year, but as I am not staying on site overnight, I’ll have any small requests with me the next day.

But wait, there’s more! The lovely and talented Monique Reddy will have some of her gorgeous hair falls and hair gardens for sale, too! (Oooo, aaaahhh) She’ll also take custom orders for those and Jayne hats. (*cheer!*) I’ll get more details from her on those later, or you can jump the gun and request info on Monique’s KnottyNicki Etsy page. Did I mention that she sold out of her last batch? They’re that awesome.

Stop by, say hi! Come see us at Phoenix ComiCon! Yaaaaaaaayyyyy *Kermit flail*

It’s that time again… Phoenix ComiCon 2012!!

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Hey, guys! It’s me, Emma. Remember me? Yeah, I don’t either… I mean..! Hah! Time for update!

As Arizona Renaissance Festival begins to wrap up, my focus is shifting towards the horizons for PHXCC 2012! (Wooo!!)

Police Box Journals

I am extremely excited to announce that I will be bringing the lovely Leslie Post and her leather handmade books of D’Vyne Wrytes to PHXCC with me this year! Rest assured that she will be bringing as many Blue Police Box journals as she can manage, with many new designs in the works. We’ve heard rumblings of Dos-a-dos Police Box books and satchels that are bigger on the inside, Steampunk, Auryn, Star Wars, Star Trek.. You name it!

She’s getting inundated with creative ideas and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with. And neither should you!

As it stands, we currently have a table in the Artist Alley of the Exhibitor Hall. We’re hoping to get a larger booth should it become available as we still haven’t been given an official assignment. I will keep you posted!

Hours of the Exhibitor Hall are:
Thursday (May 24) 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Friday (May 25) 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Saturday (May 26) 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday (May 27) 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

See you there!

New Addition Revealed! And updated Map!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Drum roll please…

I now present to you, Kevin Gawthrope!!! *cheer*
Kevin has graciously agreed to display his Original Vintage Star Wars Notebooks for sale at my booth 326 for Phoenix ComiCon. We will also be taking custom orders which he will list and accept payment through his Etsy store. Not only that, but all orders placed during PHXCC come with free shipping! Thanks, Kevin!

In just-as-exciting news, my vinyl plotter is working GREAT! I have a bunch of original vinyl decal designs that will be available at con will all different kinds of geekery: Neverending Story, Doctor Who, Dune, and maybe even wookie or two! The hard part is going to be making enough of them. ;)

See you all soon!

Phoenix ComiCon 2012 Update

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Exciting news! You won’t be able to find D’Vyne Wrytes artist Leslie Post at my table #326 anymore. Why? Because she’s be at #426! That means more room for product, and perhaps the occasional marshmallow shot.

Also exciting news update, I’ll be on a panel again this year. It’s called Web Comics: Saturday May 26th, 10:30am – 11:30am, and I’ll be joining other awesome webcomic-teers in a general discussion on, what else, but webcomics!  Other guests include Kevin Coulston of StaleBacon, Val Hochberg of Mystery Babylon, and Jeff Pina of Dr. Oblivion’s Guide to Teenage Dating.

**UPDATE!!!**

Due to some Cuh-RAZY web programming, I am apparently a ninja panelist for Friday’s “Web Comics 101” 6pm – 7pm and Saturday’s “Web Comics” 10:30am – 11:30am. See you there!!!

Updates – Well, I’m alive

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

Sorry for the lack of updates. I.. almost died a couple of weeks ago. I can’t lie about it, but I also don’t want to go into details. First my dog, then almost me. It’s kind of really put a damper on things as I realized I need to slow down and really take care of myself. I know, I know. Busy Emma. What the hell. I get it. The unfortunate bit means that the comic is going to update sporadically. I really hate that, but, that’s how it is right now.

Moving on to the upsides.. AZRF is almost over, and then comes Phoenix ComiCon. I’m really not planning too much for it because of everything that’s happened already this year. There will be one new button design, one new print design, and… The book!

Which leads me to shill out for… My IndieGoGo campaign! I figured out that we’ve been online for 10 years. 10 years! Can you believe it? It’s really hard for me to believe, but it’s true.

I’ve had a lot of people ask for books over the years, and I can’t really think of a better time to really just take the time to do it right. So, I’ve priced it out, put this out there, really stepped out of my comfort zone, but I know I have plenty of time to do this for you guys and it’ll be ready to ship May 22. That means if you plan on being at Phoenix ComiCon, I’ll be able to even bring you the hard copy.

In it will not only be all the comics you’ve seen so far, but all of the art, sketches, and scrapped comics that have built this world inside my head. I have 13 years worth of stuff here, and I’ve barely shown y’all half of it. I’m pretty excited to see how it turns out. I’m not even really sure of the page count, yet.

So, check it out. I’ll be doing a digital copy, too. Help if you can. Spread the word if you can’t. I’m really hoping to make enough to get a larger print run than I expect.

Phoenix ComiCon Tomorrow!!!

Em2aMap

Come find us :D If you dare!

Don’t forget my panels!

Thursday’s The World of Froud: You Remind Me of the Babe panel at 7:30pm with Tim (the guy behind Dill) and Amy, where we talk about the wonderful works of Brian, Wendy, and Toby Froud.

Friday is Webcomics 101 with Val, Kevin, Frank, and Patrick at 4:30pm. We’ll be answering questions about the basics of how to start up, where to get hosting, what we use, advertising, and we answer almost any question you throw at us. I take that back, between the 5 of us, you’d probably get an answer to ANYTHING.
